A New Meaning For Coconut!!

by Irish-Le-Feaux @ 2007-07-30 - 10:56:11

Heard some debate on the tv this moring about a new use of the word COCONUT.

Apparently this is being used, disparagingly, amongst the Asian community for those who are seen as brown on the outside and white on the inside, to somehow allow them to improve their working lives.

This doesn't seem overly fair to me.  Sometimes we all have to act as something we are not in our daily business lives to oil the flow of commerce etc., whether you are Asian, Greek, English or anything else. Underneath it all, you are what you are and as such you should not be judged for how you appear to behave some of the time when you need to "fit in" to a situation.

Or am I being naive here?

I love this stuff.

They are also called Bountys -as in the chocolate bar that's dark on the outside and white coconut on the inside.

The chinese use the word Banana for the same purpose - yellow on the outside and white on the inside.

And best of all I've heard members of the Green party refered to a Water Mellons! - Green on the outside but red on the inside - They look like environmentalists BUT they are really socialists!

As to your serious point about the name-calling, in my experience it's the unsuccessful people that do the name calling.

I think you are right, or those that are more engrossed in their culture than living their lives today.

There are also peaches, white and light on the out side with a hard dark brown inner core.

Every group of people seems to have their own insulates to people that they perceive to be a 'racial traitor' which is completely abhorrent. As every one else has said, what right do other people of any particular ethnic group have to dictate to others, as well as people within their own community, what their ethnic identity should be.

You are absolutely right Arkers. What really annoys me is how someone of mixed race has to lean towards their ethnic identity more than their white identity. That is according to the ethnic group activists.
