Democracy - What Democracy?

by Irish-Le-Feaux @ 2008-03-06 - 08:36:10

So now it is official. The Labour government really does hold the electorate in utter contempt.

Despite a PROMISE at the last election this government is reneging on allowing the people of this country a vote on the European Constitution, or it's virtually exact replacement.

Why? Because, as with the debacle surrounding the general election that wasn't a few months ago, Bully Brown realises he will probably not gain the support of  the populace and therefore will be left with egg on his face.

This is typical of this disorganised, shambolic and short-sighted government.

As for the Liberal Democrats - well they have decided they are going to take their ball home because they don't like the rules. What have they done by electing the Blair clone Nick Clegg as their leader? Walk-outs of parliament, abstentions in votes that could have sent a message to the government, which is one of the most important things that the opposition in parlieament can do. They are a bigger shambles at the moment than Labour, if that is possible?

Gordon Bennett what a couple of downpours, I was going to say showers but they are much wetter than that.

Dear Irish,

It's so shocking to think that our politicians are even thinking of doing something major like this without a mandate from the people. All the parties claim to improve healthcare, schools, public order etc, but significantly none claim to be democratic - it might seem I'm being pedantic but I think it is very significant. Why do we have to choose what they like? Surely they work for us, not vice versa - but I guess it hasn't been like that for a looooong time.

Hear hear from me as well, Irish, is that what they think "representing the wishes of the electorate" means.

Come on you lot. You never for one moment expected the government to keep a promise.

The only thing I expect from Bully Brown is lies and deceit and the dismantling of the NHS. Not disappointed then am I?

Don't forget the postal services and higher taxes because he failed to save any public money by controlling government borrowing when the economy was booming.
