Allotment Truths

by Irish-Le-Feaux @ 2008-03-15 - 19:59:22

I have been an allotmenteer for 2 years now and I have learnt that there are the undeniable truths:

1. I lack patience. I always want to be doing things a month before I should.

2. I can't do anything in straight lines. I have no natural talent for creating straight things, such as borders, edges or rows of vegetable.

3. The most important. I have no shortage whatsoever of volunteers to eat the wonderful fresh produce that I grow, but there is a complete absence of volunteers when it comes down to the digging, rotavtating, weeding etc.

Just thought you might like to know.

Yes- I know what you mean - I try and grow veg for the whole family -but I'm usually the only one in the garden late autumn digging compost into the soil and putting the onions and potatoes in when it's cold and raining.

I also sow seeds too early - like the lettuce I put in the allotment on the weekend - it's so cold -the seeds may rot.
Also their (weather forecasters) predicting frost this week and I put in the potatoes (in the allotment)a couple of weeks ago -too early I think.

Reckon most will survive Camilla unless it becomes severly cold. Was going to do wonders this weekend on my allotment including putting up a shed and greenhose on my new one. Going to finish up doing absolutely nothing because of the weather which is horrendous here and going to get worse.

We land slaves will just have to keep going girl!!!
